The
Isle of Wight is perceived as being remote in fact
we're very well connected. Access to Europe,
London, the rest of the South East and UK is via
air, road, rail and sea links.
The cross-Solent ferry market is the biggest
in the UK. During 2000, 8.6 million passengers,
1.5 million cars and 250,000 commercial vehicles
crossed the Solent. Links from five travel interchanges
on the northern coast
provide
three
vehicle
routes and three dedicated passenger routes into
Southampton, Portsmouth and the New Forest. Crossing
the Solent these days is as simple and, for Island
companies costs roughly the same as taking a taxi
to the local railway station.
For travel to Europe or further a-field, Southampton
International Airport is the business airport on
the Island's doorstep. In 1999 Southampton
was the fastest growing airport in percentage terms
in the UK. The airport is a short journey
away and is also serviced by a fast rail link service
to London.
